A cultural treasure of the Austin community, this ballet academy has been providing the finest classical ballet training for over 30 years. Prior to opening the Slavin Nadal School of Ballet in 1989, Eugene Slavin and Alexandra Nadal were the founders of Ballet Austin and the Ballet Austin Academy (1983), and served as Artistic Directors of Ballet Austin and its predecessors – Austin Civic Ballet and Academy – for 17 years (1972–1989). They were principal dancers with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet before their arrival in Austin in 1972. The Slavins chose their longtime protégé, Joseph Nygren Cox, and his wife, Kimberly Nygren Cox, to succeed them as directors of the school.
